Have you heard of stewardship?

This question came up after I heard this term used this way about the church, but some churches I’ve been around have said they are stewardship churches. What this means is still confusing, as I haven’t discussed what that truly means. I did find the following link: https://www.usccb.org/committees/evangelization-catechesis/stewardship. This link is from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops talking and explaining stewardship.

What is a steward?

Someone who models the life of Jesus.

What is a stewardship parish?

Based on my current church, it’s where they look at the long-term needs of the parish and ask the parishioners to commit to prayer, formation, service, and financial support fulfilled through one of the many ministries in the church where they can use the talents and gifts God has given us. Basically, to serve one another and give meaning to our lives.

Stewardship brings more meaning to what it means to be Catholic and allows for more opportunities for those to know how to deepen their faith. Even though not all churches have their main focus towards stewardship, it doesn’t mean they don’t have ministries or faith formations people can join and contribute to the church and community.
